The Photography Show presented by AIPAD 2023

Michael Hoppen's Highlights

Michael Hoppen Gallery is pleased to return to AIPAD, New York, this year with an exceptional group of vintage prints. Each one has a story to tell. In the coming weeks, we will be showcasing a series of highlights from our presentation, revealing the truths and fictions within them.

We look forward to welcoming you to our stand (225) at the fair which opens to the public on Friday 31st March, where you will enjoy seeing our selection of works, many of which have never been exhibited before.

When Henri Cartier-Bresson fortuitously chanced upon the moment that a cheeky, young French boy was wandering down Rue Mouffetard in central Paris, hugging a bottle of wine in each arm, little did the great photographer know that the image would become one of the most iconic in photographic history. Hurrying home, the youngster's smile is rich with pride. The year is 1954; he is a child of the post-war period and emblematic of a certain European resilience. And yet, more than this, people love this photograph for its timeless quality, the way Cartier-Bresson captures something so essential about childhood.
