Congratulations to Ishiuchi Miyako

Winner of the Women in Motion Award, 2024

Congratulations to Ishiuchi Miyako, recipient of the 2024  Women In Motion Award by Kering and Les Rencontres d'Arles!

In recognition of Ishiuchi’s outstanding contribution to photography and her commitment to championing women’s representation, Ishiuchi has been awarded this year’s prize, which honours women’s achievements on both sides of the camera.

Ishiuchi will receive the award at the Théâtre Antique d'Arle on Tuesday, July 2nd, where a presentation of her work will be followed by a discussion of her personal journey, and views about the role of women in photography and society. A monographic exhibition of Ishiuchi’s work entitled ‘Belongings’ will open at the Salle Henri-Comte in Arles on July 1st, building upon her display at Kyotographie last year.

Ishiuchi’s photography will also feature prominently inI’m So Happy You Are Here, a group exhibition of Japanese women photographers presented by Aperture at the Palais de l’Archevêché in Arles. This exhibition, the first in France dedicated to acknowledging this history, brings together work by 25 Japanese female artists active between the 1950s until today for the first time. The show has been curated by the editors of a new publication of the same title commissioned by Aperture, which will also be launched this week.
