Matt Henry’s latest project is a photographic series engaging with the traditional crime genre of American fiction. Shot in Louisiana and set in the late 1960s with a full cast of actors, Matt created an entire world for his shoot.
“I am at heart a storyteller,” claims Henry, “but my feeling has always been that rather than aping more nuanced mediums like film and television, the static nature of the photograph can be a means to pry under the surface of other formats and reflect on their cultural impact. Much of my work has explored classical American iconography and how these signs and symbols are manipulated for particular outcomes, but focusing on the crime genre has opened up other interesting questions for me.
