Publication: Robert Bergman - Selected Portraits

Robert Bergman could be summarised in a variety of ways, as a poet, a theorist or a philosopher, but it is his interests in and utilisation of these areas that have contributed to his work as one of the key photographers and creative figures of art history.

Robert Bergman: Selected Portraits presents the viewer with a series of varied and intensely felt, by both photographer and photographed, portraits aptly described in the opening text by Phong Bui as “a cross section of social existence”. Throughout the book Bergman uses this broad subject matter to comment on the human condition itself, through probing and exploring a mixed spectrum of emotions, feelings and often overlooked qualities of people, ultimately presenting the most honest, full portrayal one is likely to see.

Robert Bergman: Selected Portraits is a fraction of an extensive body of work, consisting of portraits shot by Bergman across his uncompromising artistic career and featuring a foreword by Glynn Lowry and an insightful essay by David Levi Strauss, accompanied the exhibition of the same name at the Museum of Modern Art, New York in 2009.
