Following a hiatus in his frenetic photographic career, Moriyama returned to photography with this book, Light and Shadow. Using high contrast to reexamine quotidian scenes and still lives made up of everyday objects, Moriyama’s work had lost none of its power to alienate and unsettle, whilst moving away from the heavy grain and blurring that had been a hallmark of his earlier work.
